How Gun Work? (3D animation 60 fps)
In today's article, with the help of 3D Animation we'll learn, what is working mechanism of a gun?
i.e. How Gun Works?
Too understand the technology behind gun in a best manner, this article is divided into three phases. In movies & games, you must have seen character doing this before he/she fires a shot. This is known as Cocking. And, because of this coking, Loading happens automatically. Let's see how? We all know that a shot is fired when this trigger is pressed. But this trigger is never pressed directly. This is slide. First of all, this slide is pulled backward with one hand. Just by pulling this slide back, in total 5 actions takes place inside the gun simultaneously. First action is: The recoil spring which was in rest position, gains a tension because of pressure and tries it's best to get back to it's rest position. Second action is - With the help of these projections, slide also takes back this gun barrel with it. Third action is: Top most cartridge, because of slide which was pushed down when magazine was inserted, gets back to it's initial position i.e. pushed up as slide moves away. This third action can be understood as - This is a magazine cover, inside of it is a spring & a follower. Magazine is designed in such a manner that cartridge can come out only after sliding. The use of this spring is to push all the cartridges to the top which are present above follower. Like this. Now what happens is - when Magazine is outside the gun, then cartridge stays on the top level ONLY. But when Magazine is put inside the gun, then cartridge at the top is pressed a bit because of slide. But, as soon as slide goes back, the top cartridge retains it's initial position under the spring force. Fourth action is: This projection on the slide pushes the disconnector downwards while going back. Fifth & most important action is: Slide, when going backwards, rotates this hammer. This part of the gun is known as HAMMER STRUT. And, this spring down below is known as MAIN SPRING. Hammer Strut, on top is connected to HAMMER. And, on the bottom is connected to the MAIN SPRING CAP. Now, because of Slide, as the Hammer starts rotating, Hammer Strut also starts moving downward. Now, while moving downwards, Hammer Strut presses the Main Spring, ultimately creating tension on it. This whole process is known as COCKING. Remember? I told you, nothing should be done for LOADING, it happens automatically with COCKING. Let's see how? Now as soon as hand's off from the slide, then recoil spring which was in tension will retain it's initial state. And also, spring will bring back slide to it's initial position. A point to note here is - Slide, when getting back to it's initial position, will push cartridge into the barrel. While doing this, back portion of a cartridge gets locked into the EXTRACTOR placed on the right side of slide. This whole process is known as LOADING. But did you notice a thing? When slide retained it's rest state because of recoil spring, then Hammer should also 've retained its initial state because of MAIN SPRING. But, that didn't happen. Let's check out why? This part of the gun is known as SEAR, and this part is known as LEAF SPRING. Leaf Spring is the same spring which is used in the vehicle's suspension. But present in a smaller form here in the gun. Now What happens is - this leaf spring always tries to keep sear in this direction. Now understand well, at the time when hammer was rotating because of slide, At the same time it was also getting engaged with the sear. See how it is locked here because of sear. and even after slide has moved away, hammer remains locked. By far, it's clear, that if character does something like this to the gun, what's exactly happening inside! Now this gun is ready to fire. Now as soon as the trigger is pressed with, it will press this disconnector, disconnector will further push the sear, which will set the hammer free, which will further strike with this firing pin under the tension of main spring. This whole part is not known as bullet. Only this 1/3rd part is called as bullet. This whole part is known as Cartridge. And, this outer covering is known as Case. And the propellant is filled inside this case only. which can also be marked as a an explosive material. In the center back, there is a primer compound. Primer Compound has got a very important role. Let's see how? Now as soon as hammer strike the firing pin, the firing pin will further strike the Primer Compound. Following which, spark will take birth and propellant will catch the fire! As soon as Propellant catches the fire, many high pressure gases will take birth here. Which will push the bullet ahead with the speed of 1000 feet/second. Many people don't know that this bullet never comes out straight from the barrel. There are twisted grooves inside the barrel, because of which bullet comes out spinning only. But why is that? Why is it mandatory to spin the bullet. It could've gone straight? You'll find the answer of this question with the help of this spinning top. You very well know that winner in the game of spinning top is the man who can rotate this toy with maximum speed on it's axis. Because, higher the Angular Velocity, higher the Angular Momentum And, more will be the stability. As the spinning top gets slower, chances of it getting fall down increases too. Because, now Angular Velocity will decrease, thus Angular Momentum and stability will also decrease. Same is the case with the bullet. If bullet comes out straight from the barrel Then Angular Velocity will be zero, also the angular momentum & stability will be zero. In such a case, there is no guarantee if bullet will reach the target successfully. But, because the these grooves, more the angular velocity, more the angular momentum And, better will be the stability. Following which, accuracy and range of bullet to hit the target will increase a ton. Anyways, now since the gun also needs to take care of law of conservation of momentum, That's why slide will go back, because bullet has moved forward. Law of conservation of momentum is nothing but an important consequence of Newton's third law of motion. With the help of this circled EXTRACTOR, slide, while moving backward, will take this case backward as well. Which, finally after striking with the ejector, will be moved out of the gun. Not only this, As a reaction of firing the first round, when slide goes backward, then it automatically takes care of coking and loading for firing the next round. Let's see how? As a consequence of reaction, slide, while going backward, will again push-down the disconnector. Again slide will rotate the hammer. And hammer will again remained locked at that rotational position because of SEAR's movement. But did you notice a thing? This all happened in such a fast speed that the trigger you pressed to fire the first round is still pressed and not free. Until now, you have't got enough time to put your finger off the trigger. Now, to fire a second round, as soon as you release the trigger, then under the pressure of leaf spring, disconnector will retain it's initial position. Now, this gun is ready to fire the second round!! Now you will press the trigger to fire the second round. Trigger will push the disconnector, then disconnector will push the sear and sear will set the hammer free & so on. Specialty of a gun is that, you cannot fire even a round without handling the gun properly. i.e. even after cocking & loading the gun, you try and fire a shot without holding it from the back. SORRY! can't shoot. That is because of the fact that this Colt Model has Grip Safety in it. This Grip safety won't let the trigger go back. But as you hold the gun from the back, grip safety will be lifted upwards and and trigger will be able to complete the remaining process after pushing the disconnector. With the help of 3D Animation, let's learn, what is a technology behind silencer, that removes the sound off from the gun when used. Plus, in movies you must have seen, villain sometimes uses a pillow instead of suppressor. But the question is, by using the pillow, seriously there isn't any shooting sound or are you being befooled?
